Under the Pines.
This project was designed as a multi-layered family space set beneath tall pines and oaks. The goal was to create a garden with many ways to enjoy the outdoors while preserving the quiet, natural character of the site.
At the center of the garden sits a large, airy pergola with a patterned roof and openwork walls. It continues into a wooden deck, forming a generous outdoor living area for gatherings, swings, and relaxed evenings outside.
In a natural low point of the terrain, we shaped a dry creek — a subtle landscape feature that feels like a memory of water once running through the forest. Nearby, a small tent-play area is tucked into a ring of shrubs, giving children their own hidden corner.
The planting palette is calm and woodland-inspired: sedges, ferns, forest berry shrubs, and junipers that blend softly with the existing trees and create a quiet, shaded atmosphere.
This garden is meant to feel peaceful, natural, and full of inviting spaces — a woodland retreat crafted for family life.
